Firefighter Killed When Car Crashes Into Street Sweeper in Connecticut

The accident occurred on Route 154 in Essex, Connecticut, on Monday morning

A volunteer firefighter was killed when a Volkswagen and a Town of Essex street sweeper collided in Essex, Connecticut, on Monday morning.

State police said they received a 911 call at 7:42 a.m. reporting a serious crash and determined that the car had been traveling north, crossed into the southbound lane, and hit the street sweeper, police said.

The Associated Press is reporting that the person killed was a volunteer firefighter in Chester. The firefighter's identity has not been released.

The driver of the street sweeper was not injured.
