1 Dead After House Fire

The victim was identified as 68-year-old Louis P. Russel

One person is dead after a house fire in Claremont, New Hampshire, Sunday night, according to New Hampshire Division of Fire Safety.

Officials responded to the call at 11 Warren St. at 9:24 p.m.

Tuesday, fire officials identified the victim as 68-year-old Louis P. Russel. The cause of death was determined to be smoke inhalation.

Crews encountered heavy smoke and found Russel on the first floor. He was taken to Valley Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the cause of the fire was by careless use or disposal of smoking materials.

Police continue to investigate.
