    One person was killed and another is in critical condition following a crash in Amesbury, Massachusetts, late Sunday night following a police pursuit in Merrimack, according to the Essex County DA's Office. (Published Monday, July 18, 2016)

    One person was killed and another is in critical condition after a driver crashed while fleeing a traffic stop in Merrimac, Massachusetts, early Monday morningaccording to Merrimac Police.

    The crash happened in the area of 131 Haverhill Road in Amesbury.

    Merrimac Police tried to stop the car on Rte. 110 because its license plate was not illuminated.

    The driver of the vehicle then sped off and the officer lost sight of the car.

    Police later came upon the scene of the accident in Amesbury.

    The driver, a man from Lawrence, was pronounced dead on the scene. A front passenger, also a male from Lawrence, was partially ejected and was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

    Hours later, a 17-year-old male from Lawrence was located and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

    Police say the license plates were stolen.

    No names have been released. 

    Police are investigating the crash.
