1 Killed, 3 Seriously Injured in Rollover Crash in Exeter, R.I.

Police say speed and alcohol were factors in the crash

Rhode Island State Police say a car crash has left one person dead and three seriously injured.

A car carrying four people was traveling southbound on South County Trail in Exeter at around 10 p.m. Thursday when it spun out across the road, hit a pole and rolled over.

Police say a 17-year old female passenger died. A 20-year-old and a 22-year-old were hospitalized.

The driver of the car, 18-year-old Scott Gavitt, of Exeter, was charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs, resulting in death, among other charges.

It's unclear if he's represented by a lawyer. A message at a phone listing for Gavitt in Exeter wasn't immediately returned.

Police say speed and alcohol may have factored into the crash and the occupants weren't wearing seat belts.
