A person is dead after an Amtrak train hit a vehicle in West Kingston, Rhode Island, late Saturday night.
South Kingstown Police learned of the collision around 11:20 p.m. An investigation found that a vehicle was driven onto the tracks and was hit by the train as it moved southbound.
The motorist, the only person in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was hurt.
The tracks will remain closed while investigators piece together what caused the accident.
