Woman Dies After Falling Down Stairs at RI Bar

The woman was reportedly going outside to smoke a cigarette when she and another person fell

Police in Rhode Island are investigating after a woman died and another person was injured when they fell down a staircase at a bar in Westerly.

WJAR reports authorities responded to a call Friday night of a person falling at the Hill Top Cafe. There, officers learned two women had fallen down concrete steps that led to the basement and liquor storage room. The pair were reportedly going outside to smoke a cigarette when they took the tumble.

Authorities only identified the fatal victim as a 31-year-old woman from Westerly. The other woman was described as a 31-year-old from Mystic, Connecticut, according to WJAR.

Both women were reportedly taken to local hospitals. The Westerly woman died at the hospital and the Connecticut woman has since been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
