10 Dogs Removed From Squalid Rhode Island Home

Ten dogs have been seized from a squalid Rhode Island home that an investigator says had feces inches deep and was littered with debris and chewed up mattresses.

Officials with the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals seized the pit bulls from a Warwick home Wednesday.

Authorities say the owner was living in a shed - not in the house.

Twelve dogs in all were removed from the house. Two dogs were returned to their owners and two others that belonged to the homeowners were treated by a veterinarian.

Officials say all of the dogs were in good body condition. The Warwick Animal Shelter is housing seven of them while the RISPCA currently has two.

According to affiliate WJAR, there's a limit of three dogs per household in Warwick.
