Handicapped Child Reunited With Stolen Wheelchair

Suspect tried to sell stolen wheelchair at scrap yard

Police in Cranston, Rhode Island, recovered a stolen non-motorized wheelchair belonging to a 10-year-old handicapped child Friday.

A felony arrest warrant has been obtained for Richard A. Rebello, 43, of Providence.

After the wheelchair was reported missing Thursday, police were alerted that it had been sold for scrap at Intercity Recycling Services. Further investigation linked Rebello to the scrap-yard sale.

Police seized the wheelchair from the scrap yard and returned it to its rightful owner.

Rebello has been charged with one count of receiving stolen goods over $1500. If found guilty, he could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $5,000.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Rebello is urged to contact the Cranston Police Department.
