150 Mainers Head to Philadelphia to See Pope Francis

    Hours before sunrise Friday, parishioners gathered in a dark parking lot in Portland, Maine, embarking on a pilgrimage to Philadelphia to see Pope Francis.

    There will be about 150 Mainers in a crowd of one million.

    Some say you can watch the pope on television by yourself, but it’s completely different to be there in person, with people you love, said these parishioners.

    Lou Young said, “There's nothing to share when you're alone really. But with someone else , my sister, you get to share.”

    Young got an invitation to the World Meeting of Families unexpectedly in the mai.

    Lisa Miller got tickets at the last-minute from a friend.

    Miller said, “So we really feel like we need to be on this trip and whatever sacrifices were willing to do. That's why we got up at 2:30 this morning.

    No matter how they got here, they all said this is a trip of a lifetime they couldn’t pass up and an experience they want to share.
