16 New England Schools Receive National Blue Ribbon Recognition

The schools will be honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. later this year

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan recognized 335 schools on Tuesday as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2015.

The schools were selected based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

The Department of Education will honor all 285 public and 50 private schools at a ceremony on Nov. 9-10 in Washington, D.C.

Below is a list of New England schools that were recognized:

Connecticut - 

  • Dorothy C. Goodwin School, Storrs
  • Masuk High School, Monroe
  • Robert A. Wakelee Elementary School, Wolcott
  • Worthington Hooker School, New Haven

Maine - 

  • Coastal Ridge Elementary School, York
  • Minot Consolidated School, Minot

Massachusetts - 

  • Amvet Boulevard Elementary School, North Attleborough
  • Lincoln Elementary School, Melrose
  • Mount Alvernia Academy, Chestnut Hill
  • Pakachoag School, Auburn
  • Sewell-Anderson School, Lynn

New Hampshire - 

  • Canaan Elementary School, Canaan
  • Gilmanton School, Gilmanton

Rhode Island - 

  • Archie R. Cole Middle School, East Greenwich
  • Francis J. Varieur School, Pawtucket
  • Nayatt School, Barrington
