A 16-year-old Massachusetts boy, who is the son of a police officer, has been cited for using a mobile device while driving after causing a head-on crash that injured a woman, police said.
Police in Pepperell say the teen, who is the son of a Pepperall police officer according to neighbors, crashed the Hyundai Sonata he was driving while on Main Street Thursday morning.
The woman driving the Chevrolet Tracker that the teen crashed into seriously injured her leg and had to be taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester via a medical helicopter, according to police.
The teen was also also cited for a marked lanes violation.
Pepperell's police chief says this incident should serve as a reminder that distracted driving can quickly turn deadly.
"Anything that takes your attention away from the road, even for one second, can have devastating consequences," Chief David Scott said.
