Police ID Driver, 19, Who Died in Cemetery Crash

Police have identified a 19-year-old male who died while trapped in a car that crashed into several trees in a Meriden cemetery overnight.

Hector Sanchez, 19, of Meriden, was driving a grey 2001 Nissan Maxima when he veered off Old Colony Road at the Walnut Grove Cemetery and crashed into multiple trees, splitting his car in half, police said. He was trapped inside the vehicle when emergency crews arrived and was unresponsive. Meriden firefighters were able to get to him inside the car, but by that point, he was pronounced dead on scene.

Police responded to the accident in the area of 817 Old Colony Road, just before Gypsy Lane, at about 1:55 a.m.

The cause of the crash is unknown and police continue to investigate.

    The scene has since cleared.

Police ask anyone with information to call Sgt. Stanley Zajac, of the Meriden Police Reconstruction Unit, at 203-630-6209.
