2 Boys Injured After Tree Falls at Park

Police in Chelsea, Mass. responded to Washington Park Monday night

Two children suffered significant injuries Monday night after a large tree fell on a group of children who were playing in a park in Chelsea, Massachusetts.

Authorities responded to Washington Park around 6:59 p.m. Monday night.

Witnesses reported hearing a cracking sound just prior to the tree falling.

The injured boys, ages 2 and 8, both of Chelsea, were transported to both Whidden Hospital in Everett and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

One boy is being treated for a possible skull fracture.

Chelsea officials quickly closed the park as a precaution and have ordered it closed until an inspection of other trees in the park are deemed safe.

The Chelsea Tree Warden, Andrew DeSantis, tells necn the trees in the park were analyzed fives years ago, prior to the park redevelopment. Four were recommended for removal, one for a harness. This particular tree, commonly known as a Horse Chestnut, had no issues.
