Mother, 2 Children Injured When Car Hits Building in Chelsea, Massachusetts

The accident was reported around 1 p.m. on Everett Avenue

A mother and her two children were injured when a vehicle crashed into a building in Chelsea, Massachusetts on Wednesday afternoon.

The accident was reported around 1 p.m. on Everett Avenue.

Police said a 44-year-old mother, her 12-year-old daughter, and her 8-year-old son were all hurt.

Fire officials said the vehicle was driving down the street when it hit a parked car and a vacant garage, becoming wedged between them. All three occupants of the vehicle were trapped inside and had to be extricated using the Jaws of Life.

"They were conscious and alert but pretty shook up," Chelsea Deputy Fire Chief Wayne Ulwick said.

The mother and daughter were in the front seats and the young boy in the back. All three were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. Police said the daughter's injuries are considered serious, while the mother and son's injuries are considered relatively minor.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

"It's a puzzle," Ulwick said.
