Snowy, Icy Roads Cause Crashes Across New England

No serious injuries have been reported

An ambulance has rolled over on Route 2 in Lexington, Massachusetts, Tuesday evening as roads across the region iced over from freezing rain and earlier snowfall, state police confirmed.

The driver was the only person inside at the time of the crash, and experienced minor injuries.

MassDOT reported another crash involving multiple vehicles happened on I-95 southbound near exit 31.

Earlier on Tuesday, two jackknifed tractor trailers slowed traffic on Interstate 495 in Chelmsford, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The accidents occurred on I-495 just south of Route 3 around 5:45 a.m. All lanes except the breakdown lane were closed for about an hour. No one was injured, but the crashes caused serious delays.

Jackknifed tractor trailers were also reported on Interstate 91 south in Greenfield, on Interstate 190 in West Boylston and on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Grafton.

Several other accidents were reported around New England as a result of the icy road conditions. Speeds have been reduced on many major roadways.

A crash has been reported in Danvers, Massachusetts, and several spinouts have also been reported. Several minor crashes were also reported on Route 24 in the West Bridgewater and Brockton area.

Accidents have also been reported on Interstate 93 in Derry, New Hampton and Manchester, New Hampshire.

In Maine, accidents have been reported on Interstate 95 in Ogunquit and Scarborough.

In Connecticut, state police said they responded to 54 crashes between midnight and 8 a.m. Two people were injured in a crash on Interstate 84 eastbound in Tolland and were transported from the scene. Another person was pulled from a vehicle that rolled over on Interstate 84 west in New Britain. Yet another crash closed Route 40 east to Interstate 91 south in North Haven.

A serious motor vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer was reported around 3 p.m. on Route 4 in Killington, Vermont. The road was expected to remain closed for an extended period of time.

Several crashes and spinouts have been reported on I-95 in Rhode Island as well.
