3 Killed in Crash

Crash shut down Rte. 1A in Dedham, Maine

Three people have died from injuries in a crash in Dedham, Maine, according to authorities.

State police confirm that two vehicles were involved in the collision on Route 1A about a mile from the Lucerne Inn after an SUV crossed the center line and slamed into a pick up truck.

Police have identified the victims as richard Olson, 85, of Ellsworth, who is also from Des Moines, Iowa. Also killed were Phillip Carter, 32, and Roxanne Papken, 25, both from Bangor.

Police say Olson's SUV crossed the center line and struck the other vehicle and that there is no explanation as to why he veered.

The crash took place around 5:45 p.m.; the road was still closed as of 8:45 p.m.

Maine State Police are asking for any witnesses to step forward and call their Bangor dispatch center at 207-973-3700.
