2 Men Facing Kidnapping Charges

The incident happened around 7 Wednesday night on Route 95 southbound

Massachusetts State Police say two men are facing kidnapping charges after they allegedly forced a woman into their vehicle against her will before she escaped in Newburyport.

The incident happened around 7 Wednesday night on Route 95 southbound. A motorist stopped to tell an office that a woman jumped out of a vehicle nearby.

The officer found the victim, a 53-year-old Danvers woman, who said James Poretta and Joseph Poretta forced her into their Ford Focus and physically restrained her when she tried to get out. She originally went to visit the suspects, who she knew beforehand, before she was forced into the vehicle.

She managed to jump from the moving vehicle on Route 95, where she sustained minor injuries.

Police say James and Joseph Poretta were parked nearby. Both were arrested and charged with kidnapping and assault. They have both been ordered held without bail.

Both will be arraigned Thursday morning.
