2 R.I. Beaches Reopen to Swimmers

Rhode Island health officials have reopened beaches in Newport and Narragansett to swimmers after results from water samples showed safe bacteria levels.

The state Department of Health on Wednesday recommended reopening Easton's Beach in Newport and Scarborough State Beach in Narragansett for swimming.

The department said water tests showed bacteria levels have returned to within normal limits. It plans to continue monitoring the water quality through the summer.

The state regularly monitors water quality at beaches throughout the summer months to ensure safe conditions for swimmers.
