2 Teens Plead Not Guilty to Gang-Related Fatal Shooting

Jose Vasquez Ardon and Cristian Nunez-Flores, both 17, were held without bail after pleading not guilty Monday

Two teenagers prosecutors say are tied to a violent Central American gang have pleaded not guilty to fatally shooting a 19-year-old Everett man.

Jose Vasquez Ardon and Cristian Nunez-Flores, both 17, were held without bail after pleading not guilty Monday to murder in connection with the shooting death last month of Omar Wilfredo Reyes.

Prosecutors say the suspects are believed to be affiliated with MS-13, which originated in El Salvador and is known for using machetes to kill victims.

Reyes was found just after midnight Jan. 3 on a walking trail suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He died at the hospital the next day.

Ardon's attorney refused comment. Nunez-Flores' lawyer said he could not comment on gang ties, but said his client is a "frightened teenager."
