Women Attacked, Robbed Near CCSU Campus in New Britain

Officials at Central Connecticut State University issued an alert to students after one woman was attacked and another was robbed near campus within half an hour on Sunday night, according to the university.

An alert the university sent to students on Tuesday said the two incidents happened about half an hour apart near the parking lot on Essex Place in New Britain.

One woman told police a man "opened her car door and tried to pull her out" around 10:15 p.m. on Sunday. When she kicked him away, the man turned around and said, "Relax, it's John," according to the university.

Another woman told police a man stole money and a blue-chip card from her about half an hour later. She was not hurt and did not see a weapon, according to the university.

Police believe the same man might be involved in both incidents.  He is in his early 20s and is between 5 feet 6 and 5 feet 8 inches tall.

He was described as having an "average build" and was wearing a dark, straight-brimmed baseball cap and a dark hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head.

Anyone with information is asked to call New Britain police.
