Two women are facing charges for allegedly conspiring to smuggle drugs into the Maine State Prison.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency said 28-year-old Katlyn Graciale, of Haverhill, Massachusetts, smuggled Suboxone strips into the prison during an inmate visit. Officers allege the strips were then sold behind bars to other inmates for between $300 and $600.

Investigators allege 27-year-old Katie Clarke, of Rockland, Maine, helped Graciale package the strips.

Officers arrested Graciale at the prison in Warren. A search of her hotel room found 38 Suboxone strips. She was taken to the Knox County Jail and held on $1,500 cash bail.

Clarke has been held on an alleged probation violation.

Suboxone is used to treat drug dependency, but can also be abused.
