‘Great Ladies': 2 Women Killed in Massive Overnight Fire at Everett Home

The fire was so heavy, firefighters were unable to locate the two women on the second floor until after the flames were put out hours later

Two people were killed in an overnight fire at a home in Everett, Massachusetts.

Fierce flames tore through a triple decker on Madison Avenue late Sunday night, claiming the lives of two women who lived on the second floor.

“I’m still in shock, I think I’m still in shock,” said Nina Ramirez, who survived the fire.

Ramirez was in the first floor apartment with her two children, when her son heard a banging sound.

“I looked through living room window and there was just like an orange light and then he started screaming, ‘fire, fire get out’ it was awful,” said Ramirez.

Farid Karradi’s wife and two children were on the third floor when they saw the flames blocking the front stairwell.

Karradi said, “She heard that explosion you know, when she come out, she saw a big fire in the living room, and so she used the back door to run out.”

“First arriving companies like I said were met with very heavy fire,” Everett Fire Chief Anthony Carli said.

The fire was so heavy, firefighters were unable to locate the two women on the second floor until after the flames were put out hours later.

Karradi, said, “They’re great ladies. And I feel so sad for them because they could not make it out.”

Neighbors remembered them Monday as a sweet couple who were always very caring for others.

Neighbor Lilia Douche said, “They were nice, they were so kind, they always had laughed with us when we would play out on the street.”

Ramirez added, “They were great people, we got along very well and I’m so sorry for their loss, it’s crazy.”

The names of the victims have not been released yet, pending a positive identification by the medical examiner’s office.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
