Stabbing Suspects in Custody

State police say a Waterville, Maine, woman is in the hospital in critical condition after getting stabbed.

State police say a Waterville, Maine, woman is in the hospital in critical condition after getting stabbed. The women police say are responsible are in custody.

Police say 24-year-old Katherine Hopkins was stabbed Tuesday night as she sat in a vehicle in the town of China. Officials said Hopkins is in critical but stable condition at Maine General Hospital in Augusta. 

One of the suspects, 20-year-old Tiffany Glidden, turned herself in Wednesday night. She is being held on charges not related to the stabbing.

Police arrested 23-year-old Carissa Butkewicz on Thursday. She was charged with probation violation and is being held at the Kennebec County Jail. 

Spokesman Steve McCausland said investigators want to talk to the Waterville women to "get their side of the story." Neither of them have been charged in connection to the stabbing.

What led up to the stabbing remains unclear.
