Springfield, Mass. Police Officer Killed Responding to Domestic Dispute

(NECN: Josh Brogadir) – A 36-year veteran of the Springfield, Mass. police department was shot and killed Monday afternoon.

Officer Kevin Ambrose responded to a domestic dispute call, when he was shot and killed upon arriving at 90 Lawton Street, the Lawton Arms Apartment complex.

Police say a boyfriend came to pick up his stuff from his girlfriend’s house. The man allegedly shot the woman, who is in critical condition, and then shot Officer Ambrose who was pronounced dead at the local hospital.

Springfield Police say the suspect then turned the gun on himself.

Neighborhood residents were very frightened by Monday’s event.
