Good Samaritan Dies After Trying to Rescue Driver in Conn.

(NECN) - An elderly man died as he was trying to the rescue another driver involved in a crash in Connecticut on Monday morning.

State police say 83-year-old Richard Herron stopped to help a driver whose SUV had rolled over on Interstate 84 in Hartford early this morning.

He jumped over the center median to avoid a tractor trailer and fell 35 feet off an elevated highway.

Police say he probably didn't realize there as a large drop.

He died at the hospital.

The driver who Herron stopped to help sustained only minor injuries in the crash.
