Woman Charged With Murder, Hate Crime in NY Subway Death

(NECN) - The woman charged with pushing an Indian immigrant to his death in front of a New York City subway is being held without bail on Sunday.

A judge ordered Erika Menendez to undergo a mental health exam as well.

The 31-year-old is being charged with murder and a hate crime. Police say Menendez admitted to shoving Sunando Sen in front of the train, and they say she told them she did it because she has hated Muslims and Hindus since Sept. 11.

Friends and co-workers of the victim say he was a Hindu, but investigators say the two had never met.
