Police: Mass. Man Admitted to Recording Women in Tanning Salon

(NECN: John Moroney) - A Cape Cod man was charged with secretly videotaping women at a Hyannis tanning salon. Authorities believed the suspect used his cell phone to record them.

There's a certain level of privacy you should expect when you go into a tanning salon, but apparently that was not the case on the Cape, where one man is now accused of inappropriate behavior.

Forty-seven-year-old Luis Macedo was in Barnstable District Court where he was charged Monday morning with videotaping at least two naked women at the tanning salon where he was working this weekend.

The doors of Sunsational are locked and there's now a sign out front explaining that the salon is closed because of an emergency.

Police say they launched an investigation after a 29-year-old woman told them she thought she was videotaped while tanning in the nude in one of the booths Friday night.

A plain clothed officer was sent to watch the salon, and, from outside, the officer claims to have seen Macedo place his phone over the door to a changing room.

When he went inside, the officer said Macedo was videotaping a 25-year-old woman through a peep-hole in the door.

"Actually, he was pretty cooperative. He admitted to everything, and he said he's been doing it for maybe the last month." said Barnstable Police Sgt. Sean Sweeney.

Police said Macedo admitted to videotaping women with his cellphone either through a peep hole or by sliding the device under the floor of the tanning booths.

Investigators say they recovered nearly two dozen videos from the cellphone of defendant, who left court without comment.

Police are now looking for women other who frequent the salon to come forward.
