(NECN: Justin Michaels, Medford, Mass.) - Nicholas Joy, who spent 44 hours lost on Sugarloaf Mountain, was released from a Farmington, Maine hospital Wednesday morning. He is now expected to return home to Medford, Mass.
Balloons and a banner reading "Welcome Home" adorn the home of the 17-year-old, where friends and family await the survivor.
Joy's aunt said that he survived using tactics he learned from survival shows on TV. He built a snow cave and drank water from a nearby stream.
Joseph Paul, a fire captain riding a snowmobile while vacationing, found Joy and helped him. He was at nearby Franklin Memorial Hospital for observation and rehydration until his discharge around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
