School Bus Involved in Accident in Newton, Mass.

NEWTON, Mass. (AP) - State police say 34 middle school students as well as the driver were taken to the hospital as a precaution after their school bus was involved in a three-vehicle crash on Route 9 in Newton.

The bus that crashed at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday was transporting students in the Metco program from Boston to Lexington.

Police say the preliminary investigation indicates that the bus rear ended a vehicle stopped at a traffic light, pushing that vehicle into a third stopped vehicle.

None of the injuries was considered serious.

The Metco program transports children from Boston to suburban schools.

From Lexington, MA Public School Superintendent’s Office--
"Thank you for your concern.   We are aware of the accident.   Our primary concern right now is the safety and well being of our students.  All parents and guardians of the 34 students on the bus have been notified. In an abundance of caution, EMTs on the site recommended that ALL students be taken to local hospitals to be examined.  We are currently gathering information about the incident and are managing all of the necessary and related details.  We will have an update later this morning for you."
