Man Killed in Fire at Providence Home

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A fire inside a Providence house has left one man dead.

Firefighters say the body was found on the third floor of the home on Pomona Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

Acting Fire Chief Michael Dillon says all three floors of the wood-frame home were in flames when his department arrived at the scene.

Firefighters tell WJAR-TV they had to remove the body through a window of the home because of the weight of the victim.

Neighbors told the Providence Journal they pulled a young boy and an elderly man from the house, though firefighters say only one person lived in the building, and was not home at the time of the fire.

The name of the man killed and the suspected cause of the fire have not been release.
