Mass. Senate Candidate Climbs Monument for Charity

(NECN) – Before hitting the campaign trail Wednesday, Republican Senate candidate Gabriel Gomez took part in an event to help raise money for victims of the bombings who lost limbs.

Gomez joined Elena Barbera of Cambridge, Mass. in a hike up the Bunker Hill Monument. Just after the bombings, Barbera vowed to climb the monument every day for 30 days.

“I’ve seen first-hand in my family and otherwise, the physical devastation, and that’s really just the beginning, the mental and emotional problems that crop up over the long run, and how difficult it is to rehabilitate and the financial impact it has if we can at least help to relieve,” said Barbera.
