Officer Injured in Shootout With Bombing Suspects Returning Home

(NECN: Eileen Curran) - It's been a challenging two months for MBTA Police Officer Richard Donohue, after he was shot in the wild shootout with the Boston Marathon bombings suspects.

Friday morning, he'll be going home.

Donohue is being released from Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.

He nearly died in April after the shootout when he was struck in the thigh.

Doctors say Donahue lost all of his blood, but first responders, doctors and nurses helped him recover.

Donohue does not remember much of the night he nearly died.

“I remember being at role call earlier in the day, and that’s pretty much it,” said Donohue.

Fellow transit officers will be there to help escort Donohue home.

Eileen Curran has more.
