Vehicles Collide in Dangerous Worcester, Mass. Intersection

(NECN): Kristen Carosa) - Witnesses say the passengers of this red pickup truck are lucky to be alive.

According to Worcester Police, the driver was turning left onto Granite Street off of Route 20 in Worcester, Mass. when it collided with an oncoming tractor trailer.

Mitchell Bourque, who called 911, said, ‘’I thought I was going to run over there and see something that I would never forget.”

Bourque was among the first to see the two-car collision right outside of Rem's Automobile shop Thursday morning.

When he heard the crash he ran over to help and called 911.

He said, “As I got closer to the truck, I held my breath. I thought this could be really bad, the people in the car in the front were not moving. I was scared to open the door.”

The “Jaws of Life” were used to remove the driver and the front seat passenger from the vehicle.

A third person riding in the back seat was not injured.

Joseph Dyer, who lives close to Route 20, said, “They were bloody, they looked white like they were in shock or something, surprised about what had just happened.”

Police say the driver of the tractor trailer was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital.

The driver of the pickup is in stable condition.

The passenger of the truck is dealing with serious injuries but remains stable.

“Hopefully she'll be alright, boy she took a hell of a clout,” said Dyer.

Dyer says this isn't the first time this type of accident has happened at this corner.

“It’s just dangerous, you have to be very careful on this road,” he said.

Bourque says he has seen nine accidents since he began working at the automobile shop.

Bourque said, “It’s very scary. Accidents happen all the time. This a very bad intersection right here.”

And as for this accident, Bourque believes it could have been much worse.

“It was a bloody mess, it really was. Everyone in this accident was very lucky today,” said Bourque.
