‘Twerk' Among Words Added to Oxford Dictionaries Online

(NECN) - On Monday, a lot of people went online to find out what 'twerking' was. Now, you can just open the dictionary.

Britain's Oxford dictionaries added 'twerk' to its online dictionary, defining it as a verb meaning to "dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance."

Miley Cyrus' provocative moves at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards may have been many people's first introduction to the dance-style, but according to Oxford, it's been around for decades.

Also new this year is selfie, which is defined as "a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website."

A few abbreviations like apols for apologies and LDR for long distance relationship.
