(NECN: Kristen Carosa, Fitchburg, Mass.) - A local non-profit in Fitchburg, Mass. is looking to prevent the spread of aids, and will set a Guinness Book world record. The goal is to conduct the largest mass HIV testing of young people to date.
Leading up to the September 7 clinic, the group is holding a number of other events to educate and stop the spread of HIV among teens.
Kelly Rourke, a freshman at Clark University, was one the first to take an HIV test publicly, in order to raise awareness.
“It’s certainly important for people our age to be aware and informed about this kind of stuff.”
Teen AIDS Peer Corps (TAPC) is the non-profit founded by Dr. John Chittick.
He says that 25-percent of new cases of HIV happen among 13 to 24-year olds.
The hope is that the public display on Saturday, September 7 will jump-start youth testing.
