3 Indicted Friday in Connection to Hernandez Murder Case

(NECN: Brian Burnell) - Aaron Hernandez is charged with murder in connection with the shooting of Odin Lloyd, whose bullet-riddled body was found in a vacant lot not far from Hernandez's North Attleboro, Mass. home back in June.

The grand jury investigating the murder has handed down three new indictments in the case.

One charges Hernandez's fiance, Shayanna Jenkins, with lying when she testified before that grand jury. Jenkins has been in the courtroom each time Hernandez has had a hearing.

A second indictment accuses Hernandez' cousin, Tanya Singleton, with conspiracy to accessory after the fact. Authorities say she tried to help Ernest Wallace elude police after the murder by driving him to Georgia and then buying him a bus ticket from there to Florida.

Wallace was allegedly in a car with Hernandez, Lloyd and a third man, Carlos Ortiz, the night Lloyd was murdered. Singleton is already in custody on a criminal contempt charge for refusing to testify before the grand jury.

Ortiz is the subject of the third indictment. Already behind bars facing a gun charge, he is now also charged as an accessory after the fact in the murder of Lloyd. Court records indicate Ortiz has been cooperating with police, telling them what happened the night Lloyd was murdered, though his story has not been consistent.
