Hispanic Heritage Month: Mass. Gov. Patrick Honors Proclamation

(NECN) -   Wednesday, Mass. Governor Deval Patrick hosted an event marking "25 Years Strong: A Celebration of Civic Engagement and Service"

It took place at the State House and it was just one of several events the Governor's Office has put together through Oct. 15 to highlight the importance of Hispanics in the Commonwealth..

The governor was joined by Ginetta Candelario, director of the program in Latin American studies at Smith College and dozens of business leaders, elected officials & leaders of numerous Hispanic organizations.

Governor Patrick presented the official Hispanic Heritage Month proclamation and spoke about why this event is so important.

There are about 600,000 Hispanics in Massachusetts, close to 10-percent of the population, according to the latest census.
