(NECN) - Actor Patrick Dempsey from Grey's Anatomy is preparing for an event to raise money for a cancer center in Lewiston, Maine.
Dempsey wasn't able to make the kick-off news conference yesterday. He was delayed by the celebration for the 200th episode of Grey's Anatomy in Los Angeles.
Dempsey will be in Maine in time for the event itself, a non-competitive run, walk and cycling challenge.
3,700 people have signed up for it. They've raised more than one million dollars for the Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing.
“Patrick is so excited. He was getting on the plane. He wanted to let me know that he was all set, and he was coming and he couldn't wait to be here, and he looks forward to all these pieces,” said Mary Dempsey, Patrick’s sister, of the Dempsey Center.
Patrick Dempsey grew up in Maine. His mother is a cancer survivor.
Over the past five years, the Dempsey Challenge has raised more than 5-million dollars for the Dempsey Center.
