Boston Police Commissioner Davis Releases Farewell Message

(NECN) - Former Boston Police commissioner Ed Davis has released a message saying a message thanking the department he has led for the last seven years.

Friday was the last day on the job for Davis, who announced his resignation in September but stayed on to see the force through the extended run through the World Series for the Red Sox.

"I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the police department I have called home for seven years," wrote Davis on the Boston Police Department's website. "I especially want to express my gratitude to those of you who have been willing to embrace change with me and try new ways of doing business and improving outcomes."

Davis acknowledged the work of the department during the Boston Marathon bombing, the Occupy Boston movement and the security detail during the funeral of Sen. Ted Kennedy.
