Boston Gets First Universally Accessible Playground

(NECN) - Boston Mayor Tom Menino cut the ribbon Monday on the city's first universally accessible playground.

Located at the Charlestown Navy Yard near Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, the playground includes a new boardwalk, 63 pieces of play equipment on a rubber playground area, as well as accessible paths and gathering spaces.

Liberty Mutual donated $1 million for the creation and construction of the playground, which is named after Mayor Menino.

It is estimated that approximately 100 kids with and without disabilities were on hand for the celebration.
