Lawrence, Mass. Teen Charged in Connection to Theft of FBI Weapons

(NECN: Brian Burnell) – A 16-year-old Lawrence, Mass. boy is being held without bail following his arrest in connection to the theft of high-powered weapons from an FBI SWAT Vehicle in Andover, Mass.

The juvenile, who was not identified, was already out on bail in a case pending against him. He is facing two counts of larceny and one count of breaking and entering.

Two weapons, an M-16 automatic and a high-powered sniper rifle are back in the hands of authorizes.

The theft happened Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. The guns were stolen from the vehicle, parked at the FBI agent’s Andover home.

Police say there were several car break-ins that night. They were able to lift a fingerprint off a civilian car. A second matching fingerprint was lifted from the SWAT vehicle.

An investigation will be made into the FBI protocols. Agents are allowed to keep weapons in their vehicles, but only under certain conditions.

A reward promised of $20,000 will be paid out, but it is not known to who.
