(NECN/NBC News: Brian Mooar) - Americans are taking time out this Veterans Day weekend to honor the men and women who served this nation in uniform.
"It is a great feeling for everybody, that people acknowledge what we do for this nation," said Edwin Garcia, a veteran.
In Las Vegas, wounded warriors were treated even better than high rollers.
"People standing on the side of the hallways for a hundred yards cheering you on… It was a great feeling, you know," said veteran marine gunnery sergeant Michael Sanford.
That support is an inspiration to those who've faced a long road back from war.
"I think that's the biggest thing. We want to know the public is behind us," said veteran Brian Olson.
In Austin, Texas, the oldest surviving World War II veteran, 107-year-old Richard Overton, savored the applause.

In Virginia, the navy welcomed its newest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, which was christened by the daughter of the late president.
Veterans Day is on Monday, November 11.
It was originally called Armistice Day and marked the end of World War I.
In 1954, November 11 became known as Veterans Day, a day to honor all veterans from all of America’s conflicts.
