(NBC News: Ian Williams) – A massive operation is underway to deliver aid to survivors of Typhoon Haiyan, but many people in the Philippines are still in need of food, water and medicine.
The death toll Wednesday stood at 2,275.
Aid is beginning to flow but it is frustratingly slow.
Now, the government is on the defensive, emergency response officials saying today they are doing their best, blaming the sheer volume of debris for holding them up.
They also said they expected the flow of aid to improve from now on.
They also said that there is also a curfew in place in Tacloban in order to improve the law and order situation.
For their part, U.S. marines are going to bring in equipment to enable the airport in Tacloban to operate 24 hours a day, which will help enormously.

On the other hand, we've heard that the U.S.S. George Washington, which was on its way to the Philippines, with 80 aircraft, 5,000 personnel, amphibious landing vehicles on board, has been delayed and won't be here for another three or four days, so really this aid effort only just getting underway and the needs are enormous.
