(NECN) – Survivors of Typhoon Haiyan are asking for help in the Philippines. It’s been nearly a week since the powerful storm made landfall, and as each day goes by, more help is beginning to arrive to hundreds of thousands of people.
One of the many groups helping with the emergency relief efforts is CARE.
We were joined on the phone by Laura Sheahen, CARE’s senior communication’s officer, who is in Manila.
“It’s really just apocalyptic destruction,” she said. “This is right up there with the worst catastrophes of this century.”
Sheahen says CARE has a lot of expertise with response like this.
She says shelter and food are their two main priorities right now.
What can people do to help in the US?
She says they really appreciate the outpouring of support, and if people want to donate, they can go to www.care.com
But CARE is just very grateful for everyone’s kind thoughts.
