Winooski, Vt. Police Chief: No Armed Suspect in High School

(NECN) - Winooski, Vt. Police Chief tells reporter Jack Thurston SWAT teams sweeping the high school have determined there is no armed suspect there.

Police say they are unsure if there was ever a suspect inside.

Police had responded to Winooski High School to reports of a man possibly armed with either a gun or a crowbar in or on the premises of the high school Thursday.

Local police and sheriff's officials tell NECN the search began after a home invasion nearby. Police say the suspect in that crime fled in the direction of the school.

Winooski School District Supt. Sean McMannon tweeted that everyone was safe and the school was following emergency procedures.

Faculty member Cathy Burbo told NECN the school was told to shelter in place, and said her kids followed drills perfectly and were safe. Burbo also says only people involved in after school programs and athletics were at the school.
