Mass. Authorities Investigating 2 Discoveries of Human Remains

(NECN: Jackie Bruno: AP) - Authorities are working to see if the discoveries of apparent human remains in two separate locations in the Boston area are connected.

Police say what appear to be human remains were found at about 8 p.m. Wednesday burning inside a barrel in a wooded area of Bridgewater.

Firefighters and police who responded to the woods behind Bridgewater State Hospital found the barrel with its contents on fire.

A barrel containing what appeared to be burnt body parts was found behind a building in Hyde Park.  Now authorities want to know if this is connected to a similar finding in Bridgewater.

The locations are about 16 miles apart.

Both sets of remains were taken to the state medical examiner's office in an effort to determine their identities and causes of death.

Jake Wark of the Suffolk County DA's office released a statement saying, "Given the circumstances, investigators from both jurisdictions are in contact with one another to determine whether there is a potential link. But nothing has been conclusively established at this point.”
