Former Patriot Pete Brock to Receive 2013 Legends Award

(NECN) - Next Tuesday, former New England Patriot Pete Brock will get an award that has nothing to do with his work on the playing field.

It's for his work helping kids with disabilities.

Brock is getting the 2013 Legends Award at the 8th Annual Hockomock-Area YMCA Legends Ball.

Past recipients of the award include Rick and Dick Hoyt, Matt Light, Joe Andruzzi, Steve Grogan and Andre Tippett.

Brock joined us to talk more about this special honor.

He said that he was extremely honored and privileged to get the award, especially when it has been given to people like Rick and Dick Hoyt.

He talked about his rookie year with the Patriots and said, “We ran the ball and knew how to do it very well.”

He discusses his work with the Hockomock-Area YMCA.

“The integration initiative allows special needs kids and their families to take part in all of the programs that typically-developing children can,” he said.

“It’s something that we’re really proud of and have created over the past several years,” he added.
