Boston Marathon Bombing Survivors Take Part in NC Run

(NECN) - Two sisters affected by the Boston Marathon bombings took part in Charlotte, N.C.'s Thunder Race events Saturday.

Nicole Gross and her sister, Erika Brannock helped start the marathon. Brannock lost her left leg below the knee and was recently fitted with a new prosthetic leg.

She was joined for a walk across the finish line by Nicole and her husband, Michael.

The sisters said it was a fun and special moment.

"It kind of united us all together again and expressed to ourselves and to everyone else that we're not afraid to be back at the finish line and to cross," said Brannock.

They were waiting for their mother to cross the finish line when the bombs went off in Boston. Saturday was the first time the three were together at the finish off a race since the April attack.
