Trayvon Martin's Mother Speaks in Cambridge, Mass. Church

(NECN) - The mother of Trayvon Martin was in Cambridge, Mass. Sunday to talk about the issues that led to her son's death.

Sybrina Fulton spoke at St. Paul AME Church.

Martin was shot and killed last year by Florida neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman.

Zimmerman was acquitted in Martin's death after arguing the shooting was justified under Florida's "stand your ground" law.

Fulton says those laws need to be changed.

"We have to do something for these laws, because they are not working for our children, and our children are just as important as anybody else's child," said Fulton.

Twenty-two states, including New Hampshire, have similar "stand your ground" laws, which generally cancels a person's duty to retreat in the face of a serious physical threat.
