Boston Preparing to Help Those in Need on Thanksgiving

(NECN: Justin Michaels, Boston) – Volunteers will be working to prepare meals for those in need on this holiday, and that includes Boston Mayor Tom Menino.

Across the city of Boston, there are several places offering free meals to homeless and the needy.

At the New England Center for homeless veterans, volunteers have been preparing for quite a while to make this a nice Thanksgiving for all of our vets.

This isn't the only place working to make turkey day happy for the less fortunate.

Since 1969, the Pine Street Inn has been serving homeless in the hub daily and also on Thanksgiving. And every year, sticking with tradition, they serve a traditional Thanksgiving meal to many of Boston's homeless.

Boston Mayor Tom Menino traditionally carves and serves turkeys to the homeless in Boston at the Pine Street Inn on Thanksgiving Day. It’s a tradition he'll keep for his last time as mayor.

Wednesday, Menino, alongside several other Boston leaders, served a holiday dinner to Goodwill participants. Three hundred people from Morgan Memorial Goodwill industries job training and youth programs were served at the event called "thanks for giving".
